Por que a LG decidiu parar de fabricar celulares e o que fazer se você tem um

A LG se tornou a terceira maior fabricante de telefones celulares do mundo no distante ano de 2013. Mas nos últimos anos sua divisão de smartphones tem lutado em meio a uma competição acirrada em um mercado que inclui Apple, Motorola ou Huawei.

Os obstáculos foram tantos que a empresa anunciou nesta segunda-feira (05/04) o fechamento definitivo de seu negócio de telefonia celular em todo o mundo.

No Brasil, será fechada a fábrica de celulares da LG em Taubaté (SP), onde trabalham mil funcionários.

Em janeiro, a gigante sul-coreana de eletrônicos já havia dito que estava considerando todas as opções para a divisão, depois de registrar quase seis anos de perdas, totalizando cerca de US$ 4,5 bilhões (R$ 25 bilhões).

A decisão de fechamento afetará todas as regiões em que está presente — inclusive a América Latina, seu terceiro maior mercado.

Até junho de 2020, a LG detinha 4,5% do mercado latino-americano, muito longe dos 42,5% da líder, a Samsung.

Quem tem celular LG: o que fazer?

A LG afirma que os aparelhos existentes continuarão funcionando normalmente. Também diz que, nos próximos meses, dará apoio a quem possui um celular seu.

“Forneceremos suporte de serviço e atualizações de software para clientes de produtos existentes por um período de tempo que irá variar de acordo com cada região“, disse ele, referindo-se às leis de garantia válidas em cada país.

E, embora a liquidação do negócio de telefonia móvel deva ser concluída em 31 de julho, o estoque de alguns modelos existentes ainda pode estar disponível após essa data.

No Brasil, a Fundação Procon-SP notificou a LG do Brasil para que forneça explicações mais detalhadas até sexta-feira (dia 09/04). A empresa terá que:

– informar a relação completa de todos os modelos de smartphones dos últimos três anos com os manuais de usuário correspondentes, bem como a relação de assistências técnicas autorizadas;

– comprovar período estimado de vida útil desses aparelhos em condições normais de uso;

– apresentar um plano de atendimento (com indicação de tempo de vigência) aos consumidores;

– apresentar um plano de atendimento para manutenções, reparos e reposição de peças aos consumidores não amparados pela garantia legal;

– prestar esclarecimentos sobre eventual redução da rede de assistência técnica autorizada após fechamento da divisão de celulares;

– comprovar o funcionamento de canais de atendimento aos consumidores;

– prestar esclarecimentos sobre o período de tempo em que a empresa manterá a oferta no mercado de consumo de componentes, peças de reposição e acessórios compatíveis com os seus aparelhos.

Por que fechou?

A LG foi um dos fabricantes de smartphones mais antigos do setor

“A decisão estratégica da LG de sair da indústria de telefonia móvel incrivelmente competitiva permitirá que a empresa concentre recursos em áreas de crescimento, como componentes de veículos elétricos, dispositivos conectados, casas inteligentes, robótica, inteligência artificial e soluções business-to-business, bem como plataformas e serviços“, disse a empresa em um comunicado.

Mas, independentemente das perdas, a consultoria Counterpoint atribui esse fechamento ao fato de que “quando a era dos smartphones começou, a LG adotou o sistema operacional da Microsoft em vez do Android e entrou relativamente tarde no sistema operacional do Google”.

Isso, segundo especialistas, é um fator que teria feito seus celulares perderem o apelo junto a consumidores.

“Apesar do lançamento de alguns aparelhos inovadores, a LG não conseguiu cativar os consumidores, o que também provocou uma mudança de estratégia”, afirma a consultoria.

A LG também decidiu concorrer no segmento de smartphones de alto padrão, onde há maior competitividade.

Os fabricantes de smartphones tiveram dificuldades durante a pandemia covid-19. As vendas caíram 10% em 2020, principalmente devido aos lockdowns que limitaram as aberturas de lojas.

O negócio de smartphones é a menor das cinco divisões da LG e responde por apenas 7,4% de sua receita. Atualmente, sua participação no mercado global de telefonia móvel é de cerca de 2%.

A LG ainda tem um forte negócio de eletrônicos, especialmente com eletrodomésticos e televisores. Ela é a segunda marca de TV mais vendida no mundo, depois da Samsung.

Em dezembro, a LG lançou uma joint venture com a fornecedora automotiva Magna International para fabricar componentes-chave para carros elétricos.

A LG concentrará seus esforços de desenvolvimento de tecnologia em outras divisões

“No futuro, a LG continuará a alavancar sua experiência móvel e desenvolver tecnologias relacionadas à mobilidade, como 6G, para ajudar a fortalecer ainda mais a competitividade em outras áreas de negócios”, disse um porta-voz.

Analistas disseram que a rival sul-coreana Samsung e empresas chinesas como Oppo, Vivo e Xiaomi provavelmente serão as que mais se beneficiarão com a saída da LG do mercado.
