Um fotógrafo dos EUA conseguiu captar o momento exato em que um foguete da Nasa (agência espacial norte-americana) passa em frente à Lua. Steve Rice capturou as imagens 22 segundos depois do lançamento da missão Cygnus NG-14, ocorrido no dia 2 de outubro, na instalação de lançamento da Nasa em Wallops Island, Virgínia (EUA).

No vídeo postado por ele no YouTube, é possível ver ondas de choque emanando dos motores da espaçonave enquanto ela passa em frente à Lua rumo à ISS (Estação Espacial Internacional, da sigla em inglês). A missão leva ar, comida, água, peças de trajes espaciais e experimentos científicos, incluindo um banheiro espacial de US$ 23 milhões (R$ 127 milhões).

“É maravilhoso ver as ondas de choque visíveis emanando dos motores, separadas da pluma de escape superaquecida. Esse som crepitante que você ouve é o resultado direto dessas ondas de choque“, explicou no post.
Para fazer as imagens, Rice usou uma câmera Sony A6300 e lente Maksutov com 500 mm de distância focal.

Em entrevista ao “Business Insider”, Rice disse que nutre essa “fantasia” de captar um foguete passando pela Lua já há algum tempo. Viu uma chance de realizá-la quando soube que haveria um lançamento em Wallops Island, que fica a umas três horas e meia de carro da casa dele.

“Meu irmão e sua namorada estavam visitando Atlanta durante a semana, mas eu sou um cara maluco e quis abandoná-los à noite e dirigir por três horas para ver um foguete“, disse Rice.

Fotografar qualquer coisa voando rápido requer uma combinação de sorte, planejamento e habilidade. Steve Rice estudou previsões do tempo, pesquisou alinhamentos e configurações de filmagem com aplicativos, além de checar os mapas para determinar o local perfeito para a filmagem.

Decidiu estacionar no acostamento de uma estrada perto de um milharal a 5,1 km de distância da plataforma de lançamento da Nasa. Segundo os seus cálculos, de lá a Lua estaria subindo acima do horizonte a leste e, por isso, se alinharia perfeitamente com o caminho do foguete.

Ele colocou no solo um tripé com uma câmera fotográfica e lentes potentes. A três metros de distância, colocou outro tripé com um pequeno telescópio acoplado a uma câmera de vídeo, e logo correu de volta para sua câmera fotográfica.

Pouco depois de ver o fogaréu do lançamento, ele apertou o obturador da câmera (o botãozinho que “bate o retrato“. “Foi apertar e rezar“, disse. As imagens foram postadas por ele na sua conta no Instagram.
