Hereditariedade, Herança, Patrimônio e Legado

Tempos atrásme envolvi numa fascinante discussão com um grupo de membros do CBMC de outra cidade. Eu havia escrito uma edição do Maná da Segunda sobre a importância de deixar um legado, e eles estavam curiosos para saber a distinção entre quatro termos aparentemente similares: hereditariedade, herança, patrimônio e legado. 

Existe certa similaridade entre esses quatro termos, mas eles são muito diferentes. Sobre dois deles nós não temos virtualmente nenhum controle. Um deles, podemos ser capazes de determinar de forma substancial dependendo de quão prósperos tenhamos sido. Apenas um pode ser estabelecido grandemente com base nas decisões que tomamos e nos relacionamentos que estabelecemos durante nossa vida.

Hereditariedade descreve traços passados geneticamente, tais como cor da pele e cabelos, altura, características étnicas, e outros traços familiares físicos e mentais. Herança tende a se referir a cultura, tradições, história e língua de uma sociedade ou grupo de pessoas. Patrimônio é algo passado para outros indivíduos depois da morte de uma pessoa, geralmente dinheiro ou posses materiais. 

Legado é o único entre os quatro termos que podemos modelar de maneira significativa, não importando o status social ou nível de riqueza. Consiste no impacto duradouro de nossa vida que permanece muito depois de termos partido. O legado pode transformar indivíduos, organizações, até mesmo a sociedade através de valores, caráter e fé. 

Como pessoas que passam grande parte do tempo no ambiente de trabalho, temos oportunidade de exercer liderança de um modo ou de outro. Independentemente do nosso papel dentro de uma companhia, quer detenhamos o papel de mais alto executivo ou nos reportemos a um ou mais indivíduos, nós podemos construir um legado. Isso porque o verdadeiro teste para os líderes, sejam quem forem ou o que quer que façam, é o que permanece depois que se forem. 

Eu me recordo de uma apresentação feita por um líder há alguns anos; ele estava explicando como sua organização anterior fora construída. No quadro organizacional da companhia, tudo fora construído em torno dele. Pouco depois de ter saído, a empresa se desmantelou como um castelo de cartas. Seu “legado”, em termos de liderança, foi o fracasso. 

Compare isso a Nelson Bell, que serviu como médico missionário na China por mais de 24 anos. Sua piedosa filha, Ruth, casou-se com um jovem chamado Billy Graham. Juntos tiveram vários filhos que ainda hoje permanecem no ministério cristão e, através do apoio de Ruth, o Reverendo Graham tocou milhões de vidas para Jesus Cristo com suas cruzadas evangelísticas e livros. Que legado o Dr. Bell deixou para trás!

Edifique sobre um alicerce forte.  O mundo à nossa volta sugere que podemos construir nossa vida sobre vários tipos de fundamento, mas existe apenas um alicerce que durará para a eternidade. “Porque ninguém pode colocar outro alicerce além do que já está posto, que é Jesus Cristo.” (I Coríntios 3:11). 

Dedique-se 100% aos propósitos de Cristo.  Como um poeta escreveu, “Apenas uma vida, que em breve passará; apenas o que foi feito por Cristo permanecerá.” “Pois nEle [Jesus Cristo] vivemos, nos movemos e existimos…”  (Atos 17:28). 

Invista em pessoas.  Nós podemos influenciar pessoas positivamente de várias maneiras, mas a mais duradoura de todas se dá através de fazer discípulos e do mentoreado. “E as coisas que me [Paulo] ouviu dizer na presença de muitas testemunhas, confie-as a homens fiéis que sejam também capazes de ensinar outros.” (II Timóteo 2:2).
