Instituições de monitoramento criam o Sistema Nacional de Meteorologia

O Sistema Nacional de Meteorologia (SNM) acaba de ser lançado nesta segunda-feira (3). A iniciativa representa a integração de atividades do Instituto Nacional de Meteorologia (Inmet), do Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais (Inpe) e do Centro Gestor e Operacional do Sistema de Proteção da Amazônia (Censipam).

Conforme comunicado conjunto, “o objetivo é eliminar sobreposições de atividades, gerando assim uma cadeia de processos, produtos e dados interligados e complementares“.

A partir de hoje, o Inpe deixa de divulgar para o público em geral as previsões de tempo e os avisos meteorológicos, atividade que passará a ser realizada exclusivamente pelo Inmet, que já a executa, basicamente, desde sua criação em 1909. Segundo as instituições, a mudança trará grandes avanços para o agronegócio, com maior eficiência na previsão do tempo, fundamental para o produtor decidir o momento exato de plantar e de colher.

Cada um dos órgãos atuará com o seu papel bem definido de modo a tornar a Meteorologia Nacional mais eficiente e para atender da melhor maneira possível a todas as demandas de seus usuários e da população. “A atuação conjunta das Instituições permitirá atingir patamares de desenvolvimento compatíveis com as necessidades sociais e econômicas do País, principalmente relacionadas ao aprimoramento do monitoramento e elaboração de melhores previsões de eventos meteorológicos extremos, elevando a meteorologia brasileira a um novo patamar“, explica a Nota Oficial Conjunta divulgada pelos três órgãos.

O Inmet será o grande integrador da meteorologia no Brasil, o responsável pela emissão dos alertas, o que permitirá que o Inpe se concentre na pesquisa da meteorologia, produzindo ciência para aperfeiçoar os resultados. “Esta integração é uma revolução na meteorologia brasileira“, afirma o diretor do Inmet, Miguel Ivan de Oliveira.
