A pandemia parece ter dado um empurrãozinho no uso das carteiras digitais pelos consumidores. Pela primeira vez, os pagamentos usando estas formas de pagamento móveis ultrapassaram a utilização de dinheiro nas compras em lojas físicas em todo o mundo em 2020. É o que revela um estudo publicado pela FIS.
O uso de dinheiro caiu 10 pontos percentuais no ano passado, representando apenas 20% do total de pagamentos em todo o mundo. Em países como Canadá, Reino Unido, França, Noruega, Suécia e Austrália a queda chegou a mais de 50%.
A expectativa projetada pelo estudo é que o uso do dinheiro físico represente menos de 10% de todos os pagamentos em lojas dos EUA e 13% no resto do mundo. Por outro lado, as carteiras digitais devem corresponder a 1/3 de todos os pagamentos em lojas.
A região da Ásia lidera o uso das carteiras digitais mobile, com cerca de 40% de pagamentos em lojas feitas por formas que não exigem contato físico. Nos demais continentes, o crescimento também foi positivo, embora um pouco menor: cerca de 10% dos métodos de pagamento na América do Norte, 8% no Oriente Médio-África, 7% na Europa e 6% na América Latina.
O assunto ganhou mais relevância após a entrada de empresas gigantes neste ramo. Hoje temos: Apple, Google, Samsung, Paypal, Amazon, Facebook, Square (Square Payments) e muitas outras. Aqui no Brasil, diversas opções também surgiram nos últimos tempos: Magazine Luiza (MagaluPay), PagSeguro, PicPay e Mercado Livre (Mercado Pago) são alguns nomes do setor.
Crescimento também no e-commerce
Se nas lojas físicas houve crescimento, no ambiente digital não poderia ser diferente. Globalmente, o uso de transações com carteira digital no comércio eletrônico aumentou 7% em 2020. Até 2024, segundo o estudo, as carteiras digitais serão responsáveis por mais da metade de todos os pagamentos do e-commerce de todo o mundo.
Os gastos totais com comércio eletrônico cresceu 19% no ano passado, chegando ao patamar de US$ 4,6 trilhões movimentados. Essa foi a maior expansão já registrada na história, representando o equivalente a dois ou três anos do que se esperava. A análise mostra que os gastos globais com e-commerce podem alcançar US$ 7,3 trilhões até 2024.
Por outro lado, o uso de métodos de pagamento tradicionais, como cartões e pagamento na entrega, está rapidamente perdendo participação. Estas formas de pagamento devem representar menos de 40% das transações de comércio eletrônico até 2024.
