Quem Está em Primeiro Lugar: o Líder ou Seus Seguidores?

Perspectiva. De várias maneiras, ela faz uma diferença tremenda na forma como encaramos a vida.  Se você vê a vida a partir de uma perspectiva otimista, geralmente encontra pontos positivos até mesmo nas circunstâncias difíceis. Entretanto, se você adota um panorama pessimista, até mesmo as boas coisas que acontecem podem ser vistas com ceticismo e ansiedade. É como aquela pessoa que acordou pela manhã e pensou: “Bom, tudo está correndo bem até agora. Mas eu ainda nem saí da cama!”

Do ponto de vista da liderança, a perspectiva também pode ter um forte efeito sobre a forma como abordamos nossas responsabilidades diárias. Se o líder vê a si mesmo como “o chefe”, forçando todos os que se reportam a ele a obedecer aos seus comandos, isso pode afetar o ânimo, a produtividade, o respeito e até mesmo a habilidade de reter os trabalhadores que são importantes para o sucesso da organização. Existe uma perspectiva totalmente diferente que o líder pode ter – uma que tem servido muito bem para muitos executivos e administradores. 

Max De Pree, respeitado empresário e escritor aclamado de livros sobre liderança, diz: “Como você enxerga a si mesmo como líder? Você sabe que pela perspectiva dos seguidores, é de vital importância que o líder tenha uma autopercepção fiel à realidade.  Líderes pertencem a seus seguidores. Um diretor deveria se referir aos empregados como ‘as pessoas que eu sirvo’. Que realidade diferente! E que efeito diferente sobre os seguidores.” 

Você pode ver como a abordagem que De Pree descreve difere daquela “Eu sou o chefe” na qual os empregados – seguidores – são percebidos como servos? Certamente tem havido muitos executivos arrogantes e impositivos que demandaram produtividade de seu pessoal, mas que diferença faria se mais líderes vissem seu quadro funcional como “as pessoas a quem eu sirvo”.  

Esse conceito, popularmente conhecido como “liderança servil”, não é novo. Embora não lhe seja dada a ênfase principal na maioria dos programas de MBA, é uma ideia que vem sendo utilizada de maneira muito eficiente por milhares de anos. Até mesmo a Bíblia ressalta sua importância, com ninguém menos do que Jesus Cristo dando a ela alta prioridade. Aqui estão alguns exemplos do que as Escrituras ensinam: 

Os melhores líderes vêm para servir.  A verdadeira grandeza, pela perspectiva de Deus, não está baseada em posição ou poder, mas na disposição de colocar os outros em primeiro lugar. “…quem quiser tornar-se importante entre vocês deverá ser servo; e quem quiser ser o primeiro deverá ser escravo de todos. Pois nem mesmo o Filho do homem veio para ser servido, mas para servir e dar a Sua vida em resgate por muitos.” (Marcos 10:43-45).  

A verdadeira liderança segue um modelo diferente.  Em alguns círculos, a liderança é percebida como a habilidade de dominar e controlar. Mas existe outra maneira: “…Os reis das nações dominam sobre elas…Mas vocês não serão assim. Ao contrário, o maior entre vocês deverá ser como o mais jovem, e aquele que governa como o que serve…Mas Eu estou entre vocês como o que serve.” (Lucas 22:25-27).  

Liderança envolve submissão mútua.  Subordinados, obviamente, devem se reportar e servir àqueles que têm autoridade sobre eles. Entretanto, líderes também devem se esforçar para orientar aqueles que supervisionam. “Escravos, obedeçam a seus senhores terrenos com respeito e temor, com sinceridade de coração, como a Cristo…Senhores, tratem seus escravos da mesma forma. Não os ameacem, uma vez que vocês sabem que o Senhor deles e de vocês está no céu, e Ele não faz diferença entre as pessoas.” (Efésios 6:5-9).

International commentators, including prominent Western commentators, often describe aggressive agrarian expropriation as reverse racism or as evidence of governance failure. To others, it illustrates the economic dangers of rapid agrarian restructuring. The conflict between these narratives shapes debates on Zimbabwe land question, African sovereignty, and the meaning of decolonization in contemporary Africa.
