Sucesso! Satélite brasileiro Amazonia-1 é lançado na Índia neste domingo (28)

Na madrugada deste domingo (28), o primeiro satélite 100% brasileiro foi lançado a bordo do foguete PSLV-C51, na Índia. O lançamento aconteceu no Centro Espacial Satish Dhawan (SHAR), em Sriharikota, e o satélite tem como objetivo observar e monitorar o desmatamento da região amazônica.

O Amazonia-1 pesa 640 quilos, tem 2,5 metros de altura e operará a 750 km de altitude. Foram 13 anos de desenvolvimento para que chegássemos ao lançamento bem-sucedido e, com isso, o Brasil entra para o grupo de apenas 20 países capazes de desenvolver um satélite próprio dessa maneira.

Este é o primeiro satélite de observação da Terra completamente brasileiro, sendo projetado, desenvolvido, testado e operado pelo Brasil. Apenas o lançamento aconteceu em outro país, com todo o restante da operação acontecendo em nosso território nacional — ainda que tenhamos a base de lançamentos de Alcântara, que fica no estado do Maranhão.

Por que, então, o Amazonia-1 precisou ser lançado na Índia? A resposta é simples: apesar de termos Alcântara, o Brasil não tem um foguete grande o suficiente para levar o nosso satélite à órbita, e Alcântara também não tem uma plataforma com dimensões e estruturas adequadas para lançar um foguete do tamanho que seria necessário para transportar o Amazonia-1. Enquanto o foguete indiano PSLV-C51 tem 44,4 metros, o foguete brasileiro VLS (sigla para Veículo Lançador de Satélites) tem apenas 19,7 metros de altura.

Voltando à operação do Amazonia-1, ele foi colocado em uma órbita em sincronia com a do Sol, viajando a 27 mil km/h e levando 100 minutos para dar uma volta ao redor da Terra. Em seu trajeto, o satélite será capaz de fotografar qualquer lugar do planeta, sendo que essas imagens serão registradas em alta resolução. A cada dois ou três dias, no máximo, o Amazonia-1 fornecerá imagens do território brasileiro, permitindo, então, o monitoramento contínuo da região amazônica — mas também será útil para que o Brasil monitore, em imagens, outras regiões de interesse, como plantações agrícolas, regiões costeiras e reservatórios de água.
