Sylvester Stallone quer fazer uma série anterior a “Rocky Balboa”

O ator Sylvester Stallone revelou que está escrevendo uma ideia para uma série baseada nas origens de Rocky Balboa (uma “prequência”, ou seja, uma produção que veio depois da original, mas com narrativa ambientada antes dela), o personagem que o alçou ao estrelato em Hollywood em 1976. Segundo Stallone, a produção teria em torno de 10 episódios, sendo veiculada em alguma plataforma de streaming.

A franquia “Rocky Balboa” gerou, até o momento, nove filmes, iniciada com “Rocky”, em 1976. O filme narra a história do personagem titular (Stallone), que vive na pobreza da Filadélfia até descobrir um talento rústico para o boxe, eventualmente desafiando o campeão mundial da categoria, Apollo Creed.

Os oito filmes subsequentes viram Rocky sagrar-se campeão, perder o cinturão e recuperá-lo, além de enfrentar traumas físicos e psicológicos relacionados aos altos e baixos de seu casamento e o relacionamento conturbado com seu filho.

Posteriormente, a série “Creed” viu um Rocky Balboa aposentado atuar como técnico de Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan) – filho do agora falecido Apollo – a criar o seu próprio legado no esporte.

Evidentemente, a postagem é apenas uma ideia bastante primária e, por certo, nada está firmado. Isso dito, não é estranho que Sylvester Stallone queira revisitar, mais uma vez, Rocky Balboa. Com um orçamento de US$ 1,1 milhão (R$ 6,24 milhões nas conversões atuais), o filme teve faturamento global de US$ 225 milhões (R$ 1,27 bilhão, aproximadamente).

‘Rocky’ não apenas foi o mais lucrativo daquele ano, mas também recebendo 10 indicações ao Oscar – vencendo três delas: Melhor Filme, Melhor Diretor e Melhor Edição – além de ser nomeado um patrimônio cultural em 2006, sendo preservado na Biblioteca do Congresso dos Estados Unidos como uma produção “culturalmente, historicamente e esteticamente significativa”.

Segundo o próprio Stallone, o drama que envolve a franquia de Rocky Balboa é a clássica história “do lixo ao luxo”, com um roteiro escrito em três dias, no qual um personagem por quem poucos sequer reconhecem acaba ascendendo à grandeza mundial.

A inspiração, segundo fontes, veio após Stallone assistir a luta entre Muhammad Ali e Chuck Wepner: Wepner viria a ser nocauteado, mas ninguém esperava que ele durasse tanto tempo contra aquele que já foi visto como o maior do esporte – inclusive, a luta foi uma das quatro ocasiões em que Ali viria a ser derrubado, o que é consistente com a história de um desafiante cujo talento ninguém reconhece, mas que acaba fazendo algo grandioso.

Voltando ao post, a imagem com as anotações de Stallone referenciam uma ambientação na década de 1960, tentando traçar paralelos entre Rocky Balboa e fatos marcantes da história daqueles anos, como a ida do homem à Lua, o Movimento dos Direitos Civis dos Negros nos EUA, o início de popularização do feminismo norte-americano, a Guerra do Vietnã e a Guerra Fria.

“Quando conhecemos Rocky em 1976, ele era uma alma perdida – um homem esquecido, uma vida desperdiçada até que ele acabou se transformando em um vencedor”, diz o rascunho escrito à mão. “Agora, nós vamos ver esse jovem batalhando, assim como todos os outros jovens que tentam encontrar o seu lugar no mundo”.

Ainda que isso seja apenas um rascunho e que possa muito bem não resultar em nada, é de se imaginar que, dado o impacto de Sylvester Stallone e seu currículo na indústria, as principais plataformas de streaming devem se interessar em fazer algo do gênero. Hoje, a propriedade intelectual de “Rocky Balboa” pertence, de forma conjunta, a Stallone e à MGM Holdings (por meio dos estúdios Metro Goldwyn Mayer).
