Seguindo caminho similar ao de outras montadoras, como a Fiat e a GM, a Ford prometeu intensificar a produção de veículos elétricos. Para isso, a companhia vai investir US$ 30 bilhões no segmento até 2025. A expectativa da fabricante é que, até o ano de 2030, ao menos 40% de sua frota global seja totalmente elétrica. O anúncio foi feito no dia 26, em apresentação para investidores.
Os planos anteriores da Ford incluíam investir cerca de US$ 22 bilhões, no mesmo período de cinco anos, e a meta de ter uma produção 100% elétrica na Europa até 2030. Os esforços incluem a adequação de fábricas já existentes para abrigar linhas de montagem dedicadas aos elétricos, a adaptação de modelos a combustível já existentes para versões elétricas e também o lançamento de novos veículos.
A transição de veículos tradicionais para os elétricos será gradual e a ideia da Ford é começar pela linha de carros comerciais da empresa. A meta é que, até 2024, toda essa parcela de produtos seja totalmente elétrica ou híbrida. Quanto aos veículos dedicados ao público geral, a expectativa é ter 100% dessa linha formada por elétricos até 2026.
Outra novidade, além do incremento nos investimentos, foi o anúncio de versões não poluentes de dois de seus tradicionais modelos de SUVs: o Explorer e o Lincoln Aviator. Recentemente, a companhia também lançou a versão elétrica de sua picape F-150, que teve por volta de 70 mil vendas no período de apenas uma semana.
Aparentemente, principal aposta da fabricante nesse segmento, ao menos no momento atual, é oferecer opções mais robustas e se distanciar dos modelos mais compactos que predominam entre os elétricos.
