O Dia Em Que a Gratidão Foi Esquecida

Pense a respeito de um dos maiores presentes que você já recebeu. Eu não estou falando sobre uma coisa que você encontrou debaixo da árvore numa manhã de Natal. Pense grande, mais miraculosamente. Talvez tenha sido um momento em que você estava desempregado e o trabalho que se materializou não pôde ser relacionado a nenhum dos currículos que você tinha enviado. Ou quando você estava doente e melhorou com mais rapidez do que os médicos pensaram que aconteceria. Ou então, quando você estava bastante preocupado e, através de uma série de circunstâncias que ainda não conseguiu entender, o problema foi resolvido. Qual foi a sua reação? Você ficou tremendamente grato?

Onde estão os outros nove?  Nosso pastor recentemente nos fez lembrar de um dos mais surpreendentes atos de cura relatados na Bíblia.  Ele foi seguido de uma reação igualmente surpreendente por parte da maioria dos que foram curados.  Mas o que tornou sua reação tão espantosa é que ela não era de modo algum o que alguém poderia esperar. 
 
“A caminho de Jerusalém, Jesus passou pela divisa entre Samaria e Galileia. Ao entrar num povoado, dez leprosos dirigiram-se a Ele. Ficaram a certa distância e gritaram em alta voz: ‘Jesus, Mestre, tem piedade de nós!’ Ao vê-los, Ele disse: ‘Vão mostrar-se aos sacerdotes.’ Enquanto eles iam, foram purificados. Um deles, quando viu que estava curado, voltou, louvando a Deus em alta voz. Prostrou-se aos pés de Jesus e Lhe agradeceu. Este era samaritano. Jesus perguntou: ‘Não foram purificados todos os dez? Onde estão os outros nove? Não se achou nenhum que voltasse e desse louvor a Deus, a não ser este estrangeiro?’ Então Ele lhe disse: ‘Levante-se e vá; a sua fé o salvou.’” (Lucas 17:11-19). 
 
Nenhum agradecimento, a não ser por parte de um.  Quando Jesus usava parábolas para transmitir seu ensino, às vezes as pessoas não compreendiam o que Ele queria dizer. Mas não houve nenhuma má compreensão a respeito da pergunta sobre os outros nove homens. Onde eles estavam? Não há nenhuma indicação de que Jesus estava zangado ou gritando. Ainda assim, aquela pergunta simples foi ao âmago da questão de uma forma que nem uma voz alterada ou um punho cerrado poderiam fazê-lo. Aquelas pessoas tinham sido curadas. Não de uma coxeadura, mas de lepra! Não de um resfriado, mas de uma enfermidade que os deixava desfigurados, afastados do convívio com outras pessoas e envergonhados. Nove dos dez não expressaram nenhuma gratidão. Aquele foi o dia em que a gratidão foi esquecida. 
 
Coisas ficam no caminho.  Eu não sei o que se passava no coração daqueles nove homens, mas tenho um palpite com base no que acontece sempre que a gratidão é esquecida em minha vida. Algumas vezes é óbvio, como quando estou dirigindo nossa minivan e vejo um carro que preferiria muito estar dirigindo. Outras vezes, é mais sutil, como o descontentamento de estar vivendo entre outras pessoas que têm muito mais. Em outros momentos a gratidão é esquecida por causa da pressa ou da falta de urgência. Posso pensar em notas de agradecimento que tinha a intenção de escrever – há meses. O que estou esperando? Será que atualizar a minha página na mídia social é mais importante? 
 
Uma palavra simples que pode significar tanto.  A quem você precisa agradecer?  Com o Dia de Ação de Graças chegando para muitos de nós esta semana, este é um tempo especialmente apropriado para considerar essa pergunta. Há algum professor que tenha feito diferença em sua vida? Os meus pais eram professores, por isso sei o quanto um “muito obrigado” vindo do coração de um ex-estudante pode significar. Quem mais? Quem o ajudou, quem sabe anos atrás, a chegar onde você está hoje? Quem tornou sua vida melhor simplesmente por fazer parte dela? Você já expressou gratidão a essas pessoas? Você já agradeceu a Deus pelos maravilhosos presentes que elas são para você? 
 
O Dia de Ação de Graças é um dia especial designado para lembrar tudo aquilo por que nos sentimos , mas por que deveríamos limitar nossa gratidão a um único dia? Em Sua Palavra, Deus nos diz: “Deem graças em todas as circunstâncias…(I Tessalonicenses 5:18). Essa “atitude de gratidão” deveria estar presente em nós todos os dias.
