Novídeo, uma das garotas, Lily, começa a chorar, mas logo a câmera foca em Chloe que, segundo a mãe, “fez sua carinha fofa com dentes salientes e a internet fez o resto.“

O vídeo foi assistido mais de 20 milhões de vezes, e a imagem da reação de Chloe virou sensação na internet.

“Eu abri o Tumblr e havia apenas páginas e mais páginas do rosto de Chloe“, disse sua mãe à BBC.

“Foi muito estranho, muito impressionante. Minha família e amigos me enviaram esses memes — até hoje eles ainda me enviam os memes de Chloe que veem na internet.”

Em poucas semanas, um artigo do BuzzFeed declarou Chloe “a santa padroeira do Tumblr” e “a rainha e deusa da internet”.

Agora, a família de Utah decidiu leiloar a imagem como um NFT. O lance mínimo no leilão é de 5 Ethereum — uma criptomoeda que vale cerca de US$ 15 mil (cerca de R$ 80 mil).

Katie Clem disse que depois de aprender sobre o mercado de NFT, a decisão de vender o meme era “óbvia“.

Em março, o fundador do Twitter, Jack Dorsey, vendeu seu primeiro tweet pelo equivalente a US$ 2,9 milhões (R$ 15 milhões) para um empresário da Malásia.

E em abril, a jovem que aparece no famoso meme Disaster Girl (“Garota Desastre“) vendeu a imagem por US$ 500 mil (R$ 2,6 milhões). Semanas depois, outro meme batizado de Overly Attached Girlfriend (“Namorada Apegada Demais”) foi vendida por US $ 411.000.

Em agosto, no entanto, um fã do grafiteiro britânico Banksy foi induzido a comprar um NFT falso por um hacker no site do artista. Felizmente para o fã, o hacker devolveu a maior parte do dinheiro — mais de US$ 336 mil (R$ 1,7 milhão).

Katie Clem diz que quer usar todo o dinheiro ganho com a venda para ajudar a pagar a educação de suas filhas.

“Chloe fala coisas como ‘eu gostaria de comprar um cavalo’, ‘gostaria de construir um Walt Disney World’, mas eu quero apenas ter dinheiro para colocá-la na faculdade”, diz ela.

Chloe acumulou mais de 500 mil seguidores no Instagram e até apareceu em um anúncio do Google no Brasil.

“Pudemos viajar para o Brasil e fazer todas essas coisas incríveis“, diz Clem. “[Mas] no fim das contas eu sou apenas uma dona de casa com minhas meninas.”
