As discussões sobre o estrondo registrado no Maciço de Baturité nesse sábado, 10, têm gerado novas descobertas durante o fim de semana. O barulho, que foi ouvido em diversas cidades, foi causado pela entrada de um corpo celeste na atmosfera terrestre e gerou um rastro luminoso no céu do Estado.

Cometas são aglomerações de poeira, rochas e diversas substâncias em estado sólido, como água, metano e amônia. Eles possuem uma órbita elíptica alongada, com períodos em que ficam mais próximos ao Sol, onde desenvolvem a cauda, e outros mais distantes da estrela.

Asteroide

Asteroides são compostos principalmente por rochas, e possuem órbita mais circular. No Sistema Solar, eles são localizados mais facilmente no Cinturão de Kuiper, uma faixa entre Marte e Júpiter com milhares destes objetos. Por não possuírem elementos combustíveis em quantidade significativa, eles não apresentam a cauda luminosa.

Meteoroide

Menores que asteroides e cometas, os meteoroides são fragmentos que se desprendem de algum destes dois primeiros, e podem permanecer flutuando no espaço ou serem atraídos pela órbita de algum corpo maior, como planetas.

Meteoro

Essa nomenclatura é dada a objetos que adentram a atmosfera terrestre, gerando os rastros de luz e eventualmente barulhos, como o registrado no Ceará neste sábado. São as conhecidas estrelas cadentes, cuja luminosidade vem da combustão gerada pelo atrito com o ar durante a queda. Nesse trajeto, os meteoros se fragmentam, podendo se desfazer por completo ou manter pequenos pedaços intactos.

Quando uma quantidade muito grande de objetos entra na atmosfera em um curto período de tempo, são chamados de chuvas de meteoros. Elas podem ser causadas por cometas, que atraem meteoroides durante sua passagem, e estes meteoroides por sua vez são atraídos por planetas, gerando dezenas ou centenas de meteoros de uma vez.

Meteorito

Quando um meteoro, mesmo após a fragmentação, mantém pedaços grandes o suficientes para se chocar contra a Terra, esses objetos são chamados meteoritos. Alguns podem pesar dezenas de quilos, e colecionadores podem ofertar milhares de reais pelas peças.
