3. Patins (1760)

O belga Joseph Merlin, o homem que primeiro imaginou os patins, não conseguia manter-se em pé nas demonstrações do seu invento. Por isso, os patins só foram levados a sério em 1863, com a criação de um protótipo americano, e popularizaram-se no século 20, quando o plástico como matériaprima foi usado largamente.

4. Coche (1500)

Nenhum novo veículo de rodas foi criado durante a Idade Média, mas as antigas carroças ganharam sistemas de suspensão e arreios mais sofisticados. Em substituição às composições puxadas por cavalos comuns nos Estados Unidos e na Europa, o primeiro bonde elétrico tinha cabos de energia na altura do corpo, o que provocou dezenas de mortes. O modelo só se popularizou quando os cabos foram para o alto. A partir de 1890, os bondes ganharam o mundo, tornando-se o meio mais comum do começo do século 20.

8. Automóvel a gasolina (1885)

Meses após a invenção do carro, o alemão Gottlieb Daimler cria a moto. Com rodinhas laterais para dar equilíbrio, chegava a 19 km/h. Em 1889, Daimler fundaria a Mercedes-Benz em sociedade com o criador do automóvel.

10. Metrô elétrico (1890)

A Londres vitoriana, maior cidade do século 19, foi a primeira a criar meios subterrâneos. O primeiro metrô, de 1863, transportou 9,5 milhões de passageiros em seu primeiro ano de funcionamento, apesar da fumaça que produzia nos túneis (ainda funcionava a vapor!). O sistema elétrico foi implantado em Londres, em 1890.
