USP pesquisa tratamento de depressão com aparelho ligado a celular

Na edição desta segunda-feira (23) do quadro Correspondente Médico, do Novo Dia, o neurocirurgião Fernando Gomes falou sobre um projeto inédito no Brasil que vai testar um tratamento da depressão feito em casa.

Coordenado pela Universidade de São Paulo (USP), a pesquisa vai usar a estimulação do cérebro feito por um aparelho ligado ao celular. O método é chamado de Estimulação Transcraniana por Corrente Contínua.

“Através da eletricidade, é possível modular neurônios, que fazem parte do controle do nosso comportamento”, explicou o médico. “É feita a estimulação transcraniana através da colocação de elétrodos específicos e uma corrente elétrica de baixa intensidade, mas a pessoa não vai sentir choque nem desconforto, e não requer anestesia.”

De acordo com o médico, o tratamento tem como objetivo atuar em regiões disfuncionais do cérebro. “Isso pode modular positivamente regiões que são afetadas e acabam comprometendo a saúde emocional, com alívio de sintomas, entre eles, a baixa estima e baixa sensação de energia, por exemplo”, disse Fernando Gomes.

“Não é só o remédio e a terapia cognitiva que têm o seu efeito. A gente sabe que através da corrente elétrica é possível auxiliar esses neurônios, principalmente, localizados mais na parte anterior do crânio”, completou o especialista.
