Como você definiria “grandeza”? Ou, em outras palavras, o que é preciso para se alcançar a verdadeira grandeza no mundo empresarial? 

Algumas pessoas associam grandeza à conquista de grandes quantidades de riquezas materiais. Outras diriam que para ser grande o indivíduo precisa ter um status elevado ou grande fama dentro de seu campo de empreendimento. Para outros ainda, ser grande significa se tornar objeto de artigos em publicações prestigiadas ou ser uma celebridade entrevistada em programas de TV, e aparecer em comerciais para lançamento dos produtos da companhia. 

Cada uma dessas coisas é um meio distinto e significativo para medir altos graus de realização, mas será que verdadeiramente traduzem o que é grandeza? Muitas pessoas alcançaram tais níveis em suas profissões, apenas para se perguntarem com remorso: “Isto é tudo que existe?”. Deixe-me contar-lhe sobre alguém que conheço e que tem uma perspectiva bem diferente sobre grandeza.  

Doug, empresário aposentado, disse-me recentemente que acabava de voltar de uma viagem de pescaria de uma semana em Montana, juntamente com 10 jovens.  Doug está com cerca de 70 anos, mas a maior parte do grupo era de homens por volta dos 40. É claro que Doug não precisava fazer isso. Como empresário aposentado ele poderia estar “dormindo sobre os louros”, isto é, gastando seu tempo em lazer e outros interesses aos quais não pôde se dedicar enquanto trabalhava em tempo integral.  Na realidade, ele está se dedicando a um interesse especial: o desejo de ajudar homens jovens a desenvolver sua fé e aprender como se tornarem efetivamente servos do Senhor frutíferos onde vivem e trabalham e, como II Coríntios 5:20 descreve, se tornarem “embaixadores de Cristo”.  

De certo modo, Doug está sacrificando seu tempo, mas ele realmente não encara desse modo. Ele considera um privilégio muito especial ajudar outros a aprender e praticar os caminhos de Deus. E, no processo, embora não reivindique isso para si, ele está cumprindo o que Jesus Cristo disse em Mateus 5:19: “…todo aquele que praticar e ensinar estes mandamentos será chamado de grande no Reino dos céus.”

Ele também está aplicando outro princípio que Jesus ensinou no “Sermão da Montanha”, como relatado em Mateus 6:19-21: “Não acumulem para vocês tesouros na terra, onde a traça e a ferrugem destroem, e os ladrões arrombam e furtam. Mas acumulem para vocês tesouros nos céus, onde a traça e a ferrugem não destroem, e onde os ladrões não arrombam nem furtam. Pois onde estiver o seu tesouro, aí também estará o seu coração.” 

O sacrifício de Doug o conduzirá à grandeza no Reino. Melhor ainda, ele poderá levar alguns homens jovens com ele. Ao invés de buscar recompensas terrenas, ele mantém seu foco no que Jesus chamou de “…fruto que permaneça…” (João 15:16).
