O Poder da Disciplina no Trabalho – e na Vida

O que lhe vem à mente quando você ouve a expressão: “uma vida disciplinada”? Isso tem uma conotação positiva ou negativa para você? A ideia de uma vida disciplinada sempre me intrigou, especialmente desde que observei que os proponentes de uma teoria ou causa, em geral, são altamente disciplinados, e se esforçam para atingir a excelência e alcançar seus objetivos. Eles ficam obcecados em se tornarem o melhor que possam ser.

Atletas estelares são um bom exemplo. Ter uma vida disciplinada é uma necessidade para atingir seu verdadeiro potencial. Na Bíblia, o apóstolo Paulo usou uma analogia com o esporte. Ele escreveu: “Mas esmurro o meu corpo e faço dele meu escravo, para que, depois de ter pregado aos outros, eu mesmo não venha a ser reprovado.” (I Coríntios 9:27). Muitas profissões têm seguido uma abordagem similar, estabelecendo padrões excepcionalmente elevados para suas respectivas disciplinas. Ser bom não é “bom o suficiente” para muitos de nós. Desejamos ser o melhor ou, pelo menos, estar entre os melhores na ocupação que escolhemos. 

Para ser verdadeiramente disciplinado é preciso se dedicar a um modo de vida. Esse comprometimento profundo se torna sinônimo do objetivo que estamos buscando. Durante os muitos anos que tenho seguido a Jesus Cristo com o desejo de alinhar minha fé a minhas práticas empresariais, convenci-me de que isso requer uma vida focada em depositar confiança em Deus em primeiro lugar, mesmo acima das necessidades de outros ou das nossas. Também aprendi que isso não pode acontecer naturalmente, devido à nossa natureza egocêntrica que tende a nos impedir. Isso exige um poder sobrenatural, um encontro transformador com Jesus Cristo que atinja o nosso âmago. Essa mudança começou para mim há muitos anos, mas minha metamorfose espiritual continua até este dia.

Da mesma maneira que atingir a excelência em minha profissão, a vida cristã também exige grande disciplina, o que constitui em se dedicar à causa de Cristo, a qual inclui, mas também transcende, nossa busca profissional. Isto se aplica ao CEO de uma companhia, gerentes de departamentos, representantes de vendas e o pessoal da manutenção – não importa o que fazemos.  Se formos dedicados a Jesus, isso deve afetar a forma como encaramos nossa vida e trabalho.

Isto se aplica até mesmo à realeza. Em Salmos 86:1-4, o rei Davi de Israel ora: “Inclina os Teus ouvidos, ó Senhor, e responde-me, pois sou pobre e necessitado. Guarda a minha vida, pois sou fiel a Ti. Tu és o meu Deus; salva o Teu servo que em Ti confia! Misericórdia, Senhor, pois clamo a Ti sem cessar. Alegra o coração do Teu servo, pois a Ti, Senhor, elevo a minha alma.” Você pode sentir a dedicação e devoção do rei Davi? 

Como homem de negócios ou profissional, você tem o desejo de agradar a Deus através do seu trabalho? Se for assim, considere viver uma vida disciplinada que resulte em agradá-Lo. Na maioria dos casos, Ele não espera que nós vivamos em um monastério ou que renunciemos a todas as nossas posses mundanas. O que de fato Ele requer é que O coloquemos em primeiro lugar e aos outros antes de nossas próprias necessidades. 

Não importa o quão disciplinados sejamos, todos nós escorregamos e ocasionalmente cedemos à tentação. Felizmente, àqueles entre nós que seguem a Cristo está prometido um meio de voltar ao caminho que o nosso Senhor quer que sigamos. Em I Coríntios 10:13 nos é dito: “Não sobreveio a vocês tentação que não fosse comum aos homens. E Deus é fiel; Ele não permitirá que vocês sejam tentados além do que podem suportar…”. E Paulo prossegue nos dois versículos seguintes: “Por isso, meus amados irmãos, fujam da idolatria. Estou falando a pessoas sensatas; julguem vocês mesmos o que estou dizendo.” Isso, como você pode imaginar, exige disciplina e dedicação.
