Corrida Pelo Ouro – Mas Será a Corrida Certa?

Você estava entre os milhões de pessoas em todo o mundo que assistiram às Olimpíadas de Verão de Tóquio de 2020 – que aconteceram em 2021? Juntamente com as Olimpíadas de Inverno, esse evento televisionado globalmente exibe os pontos altos e baixos da competição em que homens e mulheres buscam honra para si e suas respectivas nações. 

Mais de 11.000 atletas de 204 países competiram nos “Jogos de Verão de 2020”, adiados até este ano devido às restrições impostas pela pandemia do COVID-19. Apesar da interrupção de um ano, todos tinham um só objetivo: os atletas suportaram treinamento exaustivo e rigorosas dietas, abstendo-se de toda e qualquer distração que poderia impedi-los de chegar ao ouro. A medalha de bronze, e mesmo a de prata, não eram boas o bastante.

O rei Salomão do antigo Israel, tido como o homem mais rico de todos os tempos, comentou: “Contudo, quando avaliei tudo o que as minhas mãos haviam feito e o trabalho que eu tanto me esforçara por realizar, percebi que tudo foi inútil, foi correr atrás do vento…” (Eclesiastes 2:11).    

Jesus Cristo, contando a história de um agronegociante diligente e ambicioso, que celebrava uma colheita recorde, advertiu: “…Insensato! Esta mesma noite a sua vida lhe será exigida. Então, quem ficará com o que você preparou?” (Lucas 12:20).  

Tenho sido encorajado por ver muitos empresários e profissionais que resistem a um estilo de vida que valoriza apenas o sucesso material, financeiro e socioeconômico.  Tendo observado as gerações que os precederam, especialmente os “Baby Boomers”, as novas gerações avaliam o sucesso com outras medidas. 

Quanto vale ter uma família e relacionamentos sociais harmoniosos e saudáveis, paz de espírito e uma reputação irrepreensível? Como Jesus disse a Seus seguidores: “A vida é mais importante do que a comida, e o corpo, mais do que as roupas.” (Lucas 12:23).  

Que espécie de “ouro” está prejudicando o seu sono hoje, fazendo com que você se afaste de sua família, ocupando tantas horas do seu dia que você não tem tempo para uma refeição saudável ou um horário para cuidar de sua saúde física?  Jesus estabeleceu esta séria advertência: “Pois, que adiantará ao homem ganhar o mundo inteiro e perder a sua alma?…” (Mateus 16:26).
