A expectativa da montadora com a aquisição da Boston Dynamics é de reduzir a dependência da fabricação tradicional de automóveis. Assim, o setor de robótica deverá ser responsável por 20% dos negócios futuros, a fabricação de carros por 50% e a mobilidade urbana por 30%. Além disso, a aquisição pode fazer o projeto do carro conceito chamado Elevate, um veículo que pode “andar”, sair do papel.

A expectativa é de que o negócio seja concluído em junho de 2021, tendo em vista a aprovação dos órgãos regulatórios de mercado dos Estados Unidos.

A Boston Dynamics nasceu de uma unidade de pesquisa no Massachusetts Institute of Technology, o famoso MIT, nos Estados Unidos, em meados dos anos 90. A empresa se tornou popular por causa de robôs como o Atlas e o Spot, uma espécie de cão-robô.
