Até esse ponto, Jacó sempre dera um jeito de ganhar suas lutas. Agora, porém, ele havia encontrado um oponente que não poderia derrotar. Jacó foi quebrado – mas ele era uma pessoa melhor por causa disso.

Um amigo meu costuma dizer que a questão principal para cada pessoa é “Quem tem direito de governar?” Jacó lutava com Deus para saber quem estava no comando. Ele havia passado anos governando a própria vida, e isso parecia estar funcionando. Ele fez o que a maioria das pessoas sequer admitiria sobre si mesmas – ele agia como se não precisasse de Deus. 

Lutando com Deus.  Quem sabe você também tenha passado anos ganhando tudo na vida e então, de repente, isso se foi. Talvez, como aconteceu comigo há alguns anos, você tenha sofrido de uma doença que o fez lembrar-se de sua mortalidade. Estas duas coisas estão atadas juntas, e coisas ruins acontecem quando deixamos de agarrar uma delas.  Todos nós conhecemos pessoas que perderam contato com sua humanidade e agem como se fossem super-humanos. Atletas, astros de cinema, pregadores, empresários e CEO’s vêm à mente, mas pode acontecer a qualquer um de nós.
